The Department of Revenue and Customs, Ministry of Finance hosted the 12th South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) meeting in Thimphu, Bhutan from 24th -25th September 2024, bringing together delegation from the seven SASEC member countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
The SASEC program, launched in 2001 and supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), plays a pivotal role in promoting economic cooperation and regional integration in South Asia. The initiative focuses on enhancing cross-border connectivity, boosting trade, and expanding energy cooperation among member countries.
The meeting was graced by His excellency the Finance Minister, Lynpo Leki Dorji. As the host, Bhutan reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable development and regional cooperation. The delegates engaged in meaningful discussions and formulated strategies to tackle shared challenges and opportunities. The outcome from the meeting will contribute significantly to achieving inclusive growth and strengthening economic ties among member countries, positioning the South Asia region for greater economic resilience and development.
